The National Growth Fund reserves 125 million for a new Center for Animal-Free Biomedical Translation

A new Center for Animal-Free Biomedical Translation is set up by UMC Utrecht, University Utrecht and Utrecht Life Sciences and partners to accelerate the transition to animal-free biomedical innovations. Elevate is proud to be Educational Partner for this project.

Over the next ten years animal-free testing becomes the new standard. UMC Utrecht, University Utrecht and Utrecht Life Sciences together with national and international partners are working on this project.

What is the main goal for this project?

The main goal for this project is to set up a center for the development and dissemination of animal-free innovations and expertise. With the new Center for Animal-Free Biomedical Translation two social benefits are pursued: improved medicines and fewer animal tests.

What is Elevate’s contribution?

The new center wants to offer education, training, advice, and support to enhance the acceptance and use of animal-free biomedical innovations. Elevate will be Educational Partner for this project.

Plans for the future

Prof. Jeroen Pasterkamp, one of the initiators from UMC Utrecht, emphasizes that the development of transition knowledge will not only contribute to a tremendous acceleration of the development of efficient drugs for conditions such as ALS and cystic fibrosis in the lab: “It will also ensure that these drugs become available to patients faster.”
