Today, the UMC Utrecht Center for Circulatory Health and Elevate launched a new MOOC ‘Advanced Heart Failure’. In this MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), specialists and general practitioners are given an introduction to the world of advanced heart failure care. The MOOC can be found on the educational platform of the Center for Circulatory Health and is fully hosted through Elevate’s online learning platform.

Since advanced heart failure is a complex disease with ever-changing treatment options, the focus in this MOOC lies on the care of patients with advanced heart failure. By following the case of a fictional heart failure patient, participants gain insights into the patient groups that are at the highest risk for advanced heart failure. In addition, participants learn about criteria for referral of a patient to a specialized heart failure clinic as well as get to understand treatment options for patients with advanced heart failure. This way, medical professionals can familiarize themselves with the criteria for a patient’s referral and treatment options for advanced heart failure.

The MOOC is widely available, free of charge and open to anyone, but specifically aimed at medical professionals, specialists and general practitioners. The course consists of an introduction and three different parts  referral, treatment and a wrap-up  containing case studies, articles, quizzes, (animated) videos and assignments, created by Elevate in close cooperation with subject matter experts from the UMC Utrecht Center for Circulatory Health. Upon successful completion, participants are eligible for a certificate (not accredited). Elevate looks back on a fruitful collaboration with the UMC Utrecht Center for Circulatory Health, and looks forward to new insights that flow from this international MOOC.
