Data literacy

This introductory course focuses on the basics of data science while at the same time exemplifies the entire data science process by conducting hands-on sessions using healthcare data. To keep with the introductory aim of this course computer code and assignment will be relatively simple but relevant for application. Coding skills are taught at an introductory level so PhD's and their supervisors can better understand, collaborate and lead big healthcare projects.

Learning objectives

In this course you will learn about:

  • Critical steps in a data science project
  • Essential tasks in data collection, and retention
  • Introduction to open-source database and coding languages such as MySQL and R
  • Introduction to proper coding conduct and practices in data sience project
  • Common data models and information modelling approaches (e.g. openEHR, OMOP)

Requirements

To enroll in this course, you need:

  • MSc degree or similar
  • Access to Microsoft Excel
