Yvonne van der Schouw obtained her degree in Human Nutrition at Wageningen University (1988). Subsequently she received a PhD in Epidemiology at Nijmegen University (1993). Since 2001 she is appointed as associate professor of Clinical Epidemiology at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care of the University Medical Center Utrecht. In 2001-2002 she was a visiting associate professor at the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, MA, USA. She is member of the Institutional Review Board of the UMC Utrecht, and also member of several scientific societies, such as the Netherlands Epidemiological Society, the North American Menopause Society and the International Menopause Society. She is a member of the Rubicon Committee of NWO and the Innovative Prevention Committee of ZonMw, and editor of Maturitas. She is a regular reviewer of (inter)national funding agencies and (inter)national scientific journals. Per Dec 2008 she is appointed Professor of Chronic Disease Epidemiology at the UMC Utrecht.

Interests and Focus

Cardiovascular disease etiology is the main research interest of Yvonne van der Schouw. A large part of her research program of is directed at unraveling the role of menopause in occurrence and progression of cardiovascular disease.
