First MOOC in Clinical Epidemiology from Utrecht University successfully launched / 06 Jul. 2016

On April 4th, 2016, Utrecht University (UU) launched a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Clinical Epidemiology, on the platform of Coursera. The Clinical Epidemiology MOOC introduces students to evaluating applied clinical research and data analysis.  Elevate Health is proud to be involved in the development of this MOOC, by offering didactic and project management expertise.

The total number of participants of this first MOOC was 5,731, with a total of 894 active learners. Students evaluated the course positively with a 4,8 on a scale from 1-5. One of the students quoted: ‘’I really enjoyed every single lecture. Thank you so much for providing this opportunity for me, as a middle-eastern student, to learn from you. Thank you so much!’’

Utrecht University to launch more MOOCs
The UU aims to develop three additional MOOCs in 2016. All MOOCs will be aligned to the four strategic themes of the university; Life Sciences (Clinical Epidemiology MOOC), Dynamics of Youth, Institutions for Open Societies and Sustainability.

Students who are interested in Clinical Epidemiology, may continue their studies with the 3-week Small Private Online Course (SPOC) in Clinical Epidemiology, to get a more in-depth knowledge in the field. This course is offered via the Elevate Health platform. In the 3-week SPOC course, students study in small scaled classrooms with group interaction and guidance from an E-moderator and course experts. Students who aim to pursue a MSc degree in Epidemiology, have the option to apply for Utrecht University’s Epidemiology master’s degree program, offered in a face-to-face and online setting.

We look forward to launching new start dates of this MOOC and to meeting new students interested in Clinical Epidemiology.
