Norman Rosenblum

from Toronto , Canada

Norman Rosenblum enrolled in a Essentials of an Online Course course in 2013

The course functions as a 'door-opener', providing new insights into the next steps an educator might take to become more sophisticated in the e-learning context.

Introduction

I am Norman Rosenblum, a Full Professor, academic paediatric nephrologist, and physician scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto. I am also the Associate Dean for Physician Scientist Training at the University of Toronto. In that latter role I lead the education of physician scientists at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and am very involved in developing e-based learning education platforms for our postgraduate trainees to provide them with the content and flexibility they need in their learning. I am also a member of the Board of Directors and an educator within the EUREKA Institute for Translational Medicine, which is developing e-learning tools within our multinational network. Thus.

“Teaching an Online Course”

I was highly motivated to engage in the ELEVATE course on e-learning to better understanding teaching and learning in this context. I learned a great deal from this course, which I completed in June 2013. The course features a wide breadth of topics including organization of a course, use of technology, dynamics of participant interaction, and moderator roles and techniques of facilitation. I found all of these topics very helpful to my own learning and, most definitely, an 'add-on' to my previous knowledge. As an introductory course in many ways, it functions as a 'door-opener', providing new insights into the next steps an educator might take to become more sophisticated in the e-learning context. I highly recommend this course for others.
