Carla van Gils obtained her degree in Biomedical Health Sciences (1994) and her PhD degree in Epidemiology at Nijmegen University (1998). In 1998 she received a fellowship from the Dutch Cancer Society to work as a visiting scientist at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, NC, USA (July 1999- December 2000). From 2001 she works as an assistent professor at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care. She is a member of: the EPIC (European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition) Breast Cancer Working Group, the Institutional Review Board of the UMC Utrecht and also member of several scientific societies, such as the Netherlands Epidemiological Society and the American Association for Cancer Research and its Molecular Epidemiology Group.

Interests and Focus

Carla van Gils' work focuses on the epidemiology of cancer in general and on molecular and genetic epidemiology of breast cancer in particular.
